About Unified Cacao

Unified Cacao makes two ceremonial cacao drinks in small batches in the UK. I'm Joe Motion, and I make every batch myself.

The short version

  • Founded by Joe Motion. The company is Unified Cacao Ltd, based near Bedford, England.
  • Two blends. Ritualise is unsweetened, with lion's mane, maca and Himalayan salt, for the start of the day. Flow is gently sweet, with coconut sugar, reishi, ashwagandha and vanilla, for the end of it.
  • Single-origin cacao from small-scale co-operative farms in Peru, minimally processed with the natural fat left in.
  • Blended and packed in small batches in the UK.
  • £28 for a 250g bag of 16 cups, which is £1.75 a cup, or £22.40 a bag on subscription.
  • Ritualise has 0.3g of sugar a cup, none added. Flow has 4.1g.
  • A 30-day refund if it's not for you, and UK delivery by Royal Mail.

You'll also find us at market stalls and on TikTok Shop.

Why I started it

In 2019, in Bali, someone handed me a cup of ceremonial cacao. I'd expected a fancy hot chocolate. It was bitter and rich and nothing like the sachets I grew up with, and it became a daily habit. Over the next few years I tried local cacao in more than twenty countries and learned how much origin and processing change the taste.

Unified Cacao is the cup I wanted to be able to buy at home: single-origin cacao, a short ingredients list, and quick enough to make before the laptop opens.

How it's made

The cacao is stone-ground and minimally processed, with the natural fat left in. I blend it with the other ingredients and pack it into resealable pouches in small batches in the UK. Each pouch carries a batch number and a best-before date.

Where the cacao comes from

Small-scale farms in Peru that work through a co-operative. We can name the country, region and co-operative, but not yet the individual farm. Our sourcing page covers what we know and what we're still working on.
