The cacao
What is Unified Cacao?
Two ceremonial cacao drink mixes, made in small batches in the UK by Joe Motion from single-origin cacao grown by co-operative farms in Peru. Ritualise is unsweetened and opens the day. Flow is gently sweet and closes it.
What's the difference between Ritualise and Flow?
Ritualise is 97% cacao with maca, lion's mane and Himalayan salt, and has 0.3g of sugar a cup, none added. Flow is 70% cacao with coconut sugar, reishi, ashwagandha and Madagascan vanilla, and has 4.1g of sugar a cup. If you take sugar in everything, start with Flow.
What is ceremonial cacao?
"Ceremonial-grade" isn't a regulated term. Sellers use it for cacao that's minimally processed with the natural fat left in, and ours is single-origin cacao from Peru made that way: almost half of each 15g cup of Ritualise is cacao butter. More on what ceremonial cacao is.
Is it just hot chocolate?
Ritualise has 0.3g of sugar a cup, none added, and almost half of each cup is cacao butter, so it tastes closer to very dark chocolate than a hot chocolate sachet. Flow is sweeter, with 4.1g of sugar a cup from coconut sugar.
What does it taste like?
Ritualise is bitter and rich, like very dark chocolate. Flow is rounder and gently sweet, with vanilla.
Is there caffeine in it?
Very little, and it all comes from the cacao. We don't add any. Cacao also naturally contains theobromine. Flow has less cacao than Ritualise, 70% against 97%.
What's in each blend?
Ritualise: ceremonial-grade cacao (97%), maca powder (1.5%), lion's mane mushroom powder (1%), Himalayan pink salt (0.5%).
Flow: ceremonial-grade cacao (70%), coconut sugar (27%), reishi mushroom powder (1%), ashwagandha powder (1%), Madagascan vanilla powder (1%).
How much sugar is in it?
Ritualise has 0.3g per 15g cup, none added. Flow has 4.1g per 15g cup, from coconut sugar. Full nutrition tables are on each product page.
Is it vegan?
Yes, both blends are vegan.
Does it contain allergens?
None of the ingredients in either blend is one of the 14 major allergens.
What minerals are in Ritualise?
A 15g serving of Ritualise is a source of magnesium, copper and iron. Magnesium contributes to normal psychological function. Iron contributes to normal cognitive function. Magnesium contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism. Copper contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism. Enjoy it as part of a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
Making it
How do I make it?
Put 15g in a mug, add a splash of hot water and whisk it to a paste. Top up with about 200ml of hot water or warm plant milk and whisk again. It takes about sixty seconds. Use hot water, not boiling.
Do I need a whisk?
A small electric whisk gives the smoothest cup. A spoon works if you make the paste first. The Welcome Pack comes with a whisk.
How long does a bag last?
A 250g bag makes 16 cups of 15g. At one cup a day, that's about 16 days.
How should I store it?
In a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, resealed after opening. It's best within 6 months of opening, and the best-before date is printed on the pouch.
